WW2 RAF Aldis Morse code Signalling Lamp B 5A/2334 in its original grey wooden box
This wonderful looking gadget is a WW2 RAF Aldis Morse code Signalling Lamp B 5A/2334 in its original grey wooden box.
It was probably manufactured by BTH (British Thomson Houston), who were manufacturers of the iconic ‘Aldis Lamp.’ It was used for signalling ship to aircraft and ground to aircraft using morse code.
This particular example is in very good used cosmetic condition but has not been tested to see if it is working using Main’s electricity.
Labels on the lamp:-
Two original brown paper labels; one on the box and one on the lamp. The writing on the labels is barely legible.
Admiralty Pattern mark
Serial number 5A/2334 (5A is the RAF stores reference for Electrical Ground Lighting)
The Signalling Lamp B: 5A/2334, see above schematic, is stored in a lovely dovetailed wooden transit box. The box is painted in typical RAF grey with a leather handle, (which is quite worn), and closes with 'non-return' catches.
We also have an original pair of WW2 RAF Red 5A/2337 And Green 5A/2336 Signalling Lamp B Fronts Filters In A 5A/4819 Spares Box.
A fantastic piece of history for a vintage lamp or militaria collector!
