Vintage Brass Instruction Sign To Place Penny In The Slot and Slide Knob

This very small Vintage Brass Instruction Sign To Place Penny In The Slot and Slide Knob would have been found Victorian times to pre-1970s on the door in public conveniences / lavatories.

An old penny would need to be placed in a slot on the toilet door to enable you to open the door and act as payment for entrance: (coin operated lock). Hence the phrase 'To spend a penny' as a euphemism for needing to use the loo.

Approximate Size:  7.4cm x 6.2cm x 0.3cm

In pretty good condition it makes a nice piece of social history or sign for the toilet door!
