Vintage Darkroom Amber Safelight Glass Pendant Light With Brass Fittings By Johnsons Of Hendon
This is an absolutely gorgeous 1940s Vintage Darkroom Amber Safelight Glass Pendant Light With Brass Fittings By Johnsons Of Hendon: a well-known manufacturer of photographic equipment and accessories.
The fittings comprise a Brass effect Chain and Ceiling Rose which may have been a later edition.
Invented by Johnsons of Hendon, the glass was sold as the "Holborn Electric Light Cover for Dark Room Purposes". A clever design in that the amber glass covers a standard electric light bulb to create a safelight for darkroom developing.
Although designed as a Monochromatic paper safelight for a photographic darkroom, it would produce lovely amber/red ambient light in a domestic setting: see image of a bulb in the shade for an idea of what it might look like when lit.
- The dark amber safelight blown glass shade screws to the pendant holder and is in excellent condition with a few minor surface blemishes.
- It suspends from the original hook and chain via a matching ceiling rose also in brass coloured non-ferrous metal (probably aluminium).
- A B22 bayonet fitting light bulb is required and this is not included.
- It has been rewired with a vintage style braided cord but has not been electrically checked and will require a suitably qualified person to fit it.
- Red Glass Shade Neck Diameter: 7.7 cm
- Diameter of ceiling rose: 8.3 cm
- Current Length between hooks: 75 cm
