1980s Portable Sinclair Flat Screen Pocket Television TV 80 FTV1
This piece of vintage tech is a highly collectible 1980s Portable Sinclair Flat Screen Pocket Television TV 80 FTV1.
In good cosmetic condition with a small crack where the battery inserts. It is untested and is being sold as a collectible for display only. A piece of vintage television history launched by Sinclair Research in 1983.
A clever design for a lightweight portable television, which was practically obsolete when it was launched. The technology was based on a side mounted electron gun base CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) in conjunction with a Fresnel lens to enlarge the image. Competitors e.g. Casio were about release liquid crystal display (LCD) technology.
The TV tuned to Analogue UHF channels, (now mostly defunct), and could be powered by a:-
- Mains transformer (which were available to buy separately)
- Flat Polaroid lithium cell/battery, which are no longer manufactured and can be very hard to find unless you have a stash of used Polaroid SX70 film cartridges which also use this battery to power the camera it was fitted in!
