1960s Ricoh Digitime Flip Clock
This 1960s Ricoh Digitime Flip Clock is a real survivor, and is still in working condition and keeping pretty good time. It is mains operated (230 volts/ 50 Hz) and was made in Japan by the Ricoh Watch company. This model pre-dates the better known ‘Hallmark’ model and is dark grey in colour and very Eames or Space Age in style.
Approximate Size:
- Width: 15cm (6″)
- Height: 8.5cm
- Depth: 8.5cm
Cosmetically, the plastic case does have some superficial surface scuffs and scratches. In perfect cosmetic condition, this clock would be retailing in excess of £120, we are offering this one for £80, (excluding shipping).
Very simple in design, the clock mechanically flips the plastic card numbers (white numbers on a black background) making a satisfying mechanical clicking noise. Some people may find this too loud if you are use to the silence of modern digital clocks.
A small tube at the front of the clock also throw a soft light on the face which enables you to read the time in the dark: (you should just be able to see the orange light in some of the accompanying photos). The time is adjusted by turning the grey plastic knob on the side of the clock.
Made from plastic, with no external metal parts, the clock does not really need electrically testing. However, we have replaced the plug and PAT tested (Portable Appliance Testing) the clock.
The manufacturing label on the base of the clock has been partially torn and should read as follows:-
