1950s Vintage Berec Fiesta MW/LW Portable Valve Radio Made By Ever Ready UK

This 1950s Vintage Berec Fiesta MW/LW Portable Valve Radio Made By Ever Ready UK, has recently been fully checked and cleaned. It is covered in its original cloth, which is grey on the sides with a red accent on the face.

You can see/hear it playing in the following You Tube video:

In pretty good cosmetic and working condition, with a few small blemishes in the cloth and age related discolouration. All the plastic is in good condition.

The radio was originally powered by a 7.5V and 90V batteries, however, these have been unavailable for quite some years.  We have powered the radio using the mains power supply (240v/50Hz), and found the radio to be lively capturing a multitude of AM stations on both MW and LW. Both tuning and volume controls operate smoothly.

Summary

The Berec Fiesta is a two band radio:-

  • Made in London by British Ever Ready Export Co., (BEREC), a subsidiary of EverReady for Export activities mainly in Africa. Introduced in 1956
  • Wave bands: Medium Wave, Long Wave (AM)
  • Originally powered by LT 7.5V AD38 and HT 90V B126, or a mains lead. The batteries are not included.
  • Approximate Dimensions excluding handle(WHD): 30.8 x 25.0 x 12.5 cm / 12.1 x 9.8 x 4.9 inch
  • Fitted with 5 valves/tubes

It also has some pretty novel features:

  • It is one of the two Ever Ready radios actually branded BEREC. The other is the BEREC Pioneer (saucepan radio) designed for use in tropical conditions, and made from metal to prevent destruction by termites!
  • The only Ever Ready / BEREC post 1944 model with A.C. Mains.
  • To change from MW to LW, you have to push in and twist the tuning knob.
