1930s Pifco All In One Pocket meter  Voltmeter Ammeter

This 1920s/ 1930s Pifco All In One Pocket meter Voltmeter Ammeter is a wonderful little device. It has a white Ivorine back with chromed brass surround, and was made for PIFCO, Manchester, UK: it is marked ‘Foreign’.

The unit has not been tested and is being sold as a collectible, for display only. It is in very good cosmetic condition but with a few scuffs and some loss of chrome coating, commensurate with age and use. It is also missing its test leads.

A nice addition to a vintage technology collection or would make a great desk ornament with suitable support: (It is unable to stand upright unaided).

This version even precedes the later British patented 337881 (1930) version with a brown bakelite back.

The Pifco ‘All in One’ pocket meter measured the following:-

0-40 Milliamps
0-160 Volts (R=4000Ω) high tension
0-8 Volts (R= 200Ω) low tension
Valve Test
Circuit test

A 1.5 Volt battery/cell fits inside the unit (not included).

Ivorine is an unusual type of plastic made from formaldehyde and casein protein extracted from skimmed milk. It is highly susceptible to moisture and is easily discoloured.
