1930s Burgess & Leigh Burleighware Willow Hot Water Pitcher
This is a very unusual one-pint 1930s Burgess & Leigh Burleighware Willow Hot Water Pitcher, made in Burslem, Staffordshire, UK.
A traditional ‘Willow’ Design with a ceramic blue and white body, and a pewter lid with white bakelite finial. A Victorian revival piece but dating to the 1930s!
In reasonable used condition, but there is a chip where the pewter lid joins at the top of the vase, making the lid a slightly loose fit, and a small chip on the rim of the base. The gilding has also faded in most parts.
Approximate Dimensions:
- Volume: 1 pint (0.6 litres)
- Height: 16.5cm (6.5 inches)
- Base Diameter: 10.5cm (4.14″)
Due to its rarity, in good condition this jug would be worth in excess of £35. We are offering it for half that price due to the damage.
This still makes a nice display piece for the kitchen or to add to your Blue and White Willow collection.

Some History For You!
Burgess and Leigh were established in 1851 in Burslem, Staffordshire, England, originally as Hulme and Booth. William Leigh and Frederick Rathbone Burgess took over the pottery in 1862, trading as Burgess & Leigh.
The trademark “Burleigh” was used from the 1930s and is a combination of the two names.
They moved to the Middleport factory in 1889, which was recently renovated in 2011-2014 by The Prince’s Renovation Trust.
It takes 25 pairs of hands to create a single piece of Burleigh ware! Dedication indeed!
