Antique Angled Bulb Torch / Hand Lamp In A Wood Case
This Antique Angled Bulb Torch / Hand Lamp In A Wood Case is very unusual in that the torch head can be moved up and down on a metal pivot arm. The nickel brass torch head is approximately 6.3 cm (2.5") in diameter.
It is not in working condition, as there appears to be a few internal components missing, hence we are selling it as a historic decorative display piece only. It could easily be renovated to working condition by someone with a little knowhow.
The wood door slides off at the rear to reveal the battery compartment; the catch (small 'o' ring) for holding the wood door in place is missing. In pretty good cosmetic condition, the lamp does have scuffs and scratches in the wood commensurate with age and use.
Dating to the early 1900s, the torch /flashlight has no maker's mark but is similar in style to those manufactured by British Ever Ready Specialities (Ever Ready UK). The small bulb was wrapped in a piece of newspaper dating to 1962!
These types of hand lamps, were used extensively as bicycle lamps and police lanterns, and in the trenches as officers lamps.
The rectangular wood surround is made from mahogany, with a nickel brass handle and decorative switch. I haven't attempted to polish it as some people prefer to see the patina.
The case measures approximately:-
- Height: 14.5 cm (including the handle)
- Width: 10cm
- Case Depth 5.8 cm (excluding the torch head)
A nice little item for those of us whom love antique torches!
