1972 Minton John Player & Sons Horizon Cigarette Jar With Lid

This lovely souvenir is a 1972 Minton John Player & Sons Horizon Cigarette Jar With Lid, which commemorates the opening of the John Players & Sons' Horizon factory in Nottingham in 1972.

The lidded jar is white with the Horizon symbol repeated in gold around the rim. In good condition, however, there is a barely visible hairline crack underneath the lid. It still displays well.

Made by Minton after it had merged with Royal Doulton tableware Ltd, each Horizon employee received a jar in recognition of the occasion. Unfortunately, unlike the jar, the actual Horizon factory, the last cigarette factory in England, has not stood the test of time. It is now closed and is ear marked for demolition...
