1940s Hobbies Model Pattern no.2638 For A Wooden Double-Deck Bus
What did the youth of the 1930s/40s do as hobbies before the advent of mobile phones, Wii, and X-boxes? The answer is they built and played with home made toys and games!
‘Hobbies,’ of Dereham, Norfolk, produced a whole series of model patterns/blueprints/plans to collect. This particular one is an original double-sided pattern, No.2638, for making a ‘modern’ wooden double-deck (double decker) bus/coach!
The pattern is in very good condition, with some yellowing and creasing.
Approximate Pattern Size
Height: 25cm
Width: 19cm
The face has the pattern for the bus components, and the rear gives you tips on how to make the bus with wood, a fretsaw and some shaping tools, round head screws, thin wire, and paint…… Not included! The final size of model would be as follows: Length 7.5inch; Width 2.5 inch; Height 4 inch.
This would make a great poster for framing or, for the woodworkers and carpenters amongst you, actually use it as intended to make a model (now vintage) Double-decker bus!
‘Hobbies,’ founded in 1895, can still be found in Norfolk, UK, but are now based in Raveningham.
