Vintage Wekara 5520 Musical Innsbruck Beer Stein Playing Oh Susanna
This lovely Vintage Wekara 5520 Musical Innsbruck Beer Stein Playing Oh Susanna, is ceramic with an ornate hinged pewter lid. Made by Wilhelm E. Krumeich aus Ransbach (Wekara): a company founded in 1815 and closed in 1978 based in Ransbach, Germany.
The music box mechanism in the base plays the American ballad, 'Oh Susanna'

The scenes on the stein are of Innsbruck (the capital of Tyrol in Austria), and include:-
- The statue of Andreas Hofer (an Austrian folk hero from the time of the Tyrollean rebellion in the early 19th Century)
- The Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) a famous landmark completed in 1500 to celebrate the marriage of Emperor Maximilian I to Bianca Maria Sforza, and slated with 2,657 fire-gilded copper shingles!
- An image of the iconic Maria-Theresien street.
The idea is that when you wind the mechanism, and the drinker lifts the stein to drink, the music plays; when the stein is placed back on a surface, the music stops, courtesy of a little metal rod in the base that, when depressed, stops the music until next lifted to the mouth for another swig of beer!
