The BC-1206 was used in new aircraft as a form of rudimentary navigation for delivery purposes. Receiving morse code from Aircraft track navigational beacons, it approximated position but not direction. Operating at a frequency of 200-400 kHz, it was also used in WW2 warbirds including the P51 Mustang and the DC-3.
During WW2, the BC-1206 was made by several manufacturers including Setchell Carson Inc. and the Detrola Corporation. I think this particular version was made by the latter, Detrola, of Detroit, Michigan, a radio manufacturer founded in 1931 and bought by Motorola in 1948.
