1970s Merit Space Patrol Walkie Talkie Vintage Toy
This is a very nice 1970s Merit Space Patrol Walkie Talkie Vintage Toy, made by J&L Randall Ltd, Potters Bar, UK. It is based on the ‘Dan Dare’ version produced by Merit in 1955 but updated to commemorate the Moon landing in 1969.
A fairly expensive toy when first released, and increasingly difficult to find in such good cosmetic condition. Based on the principle of sound waves passing through a cord held taut between two elements (e.g. paper cups or tin cans with a piece of string): there are no electronics in this toy!
It comprises two blue and red plastic Space Patrol Walkie Talkies, and the original box with instructions printed in different languages on the rear and the sides of the base.
The box is worn with tears in the corners and in the lid. The walkie talkies and cable are in excellent cosmetic condition.
The box is labelled:-
Merit
Space Patrol
Walkie Talkies
Cat.No. 3105
It features a photograph of Earth, showing North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, from Space from original photographs of the Apollo 11 mission: Man’s first landing on the moon.
