Short SB5 Research Aircraft Framed Monochrome Photograph
This lovely large piece of artwork is a 1950s Short SB5 Research Aircraft Framed Monochrome Photograph: black and white silver based image.
The photo is labelled:-
Short Brothers & Harland Limited (the photo apparently came from their offices
Queen's Island, Belfast (now Belfast Harbour)
Visible picture size: 28.7 x 23.7cm
Approximate Frame Size:
- Width: 52.5cm
- Height: 42.5cm
- Depth: 1.3 cm
There is slight damage to the corners of the frame due to storage, otherwise it is in fairly good displayed condition. There are brown spots and foxing, mainly on the cardboard mounting board surrounding the image. The actual photograph looks fairly clean but it's difficult to be certain without removing the frame.
The photo depicts the Short Brothers and Harland Ltd SB5 adjustable wing research aircraft, which was a prototype of the English Electric Lightning. The Short SB5 assessed different configurations of wing sweep to determine the best for supersonic flight. The tailplane could also be mounted on the fin or below the fuselage.
A nice wall hanging picture for the vintage aircraft enthusiast.
Apologies for the reflections, it proved very difficult to photograph!
