1940s Philips Cast Aluminium Handle From A Broadcast Transmitter Cabinet
This amazing looking piece of history is possibly a 1930s / 1940s Philips Cast Aluminium Handle From A Broadcast Transmitter Cabinet. Thought to be from the Hilversum Transmitter Hall, The Netherlands, but we have no provenance for this.
I'm not absolutely sure what it is, as I haven't seen another, but you do get a slight whiff of oil / lubricant when you hold it to your nose. I know that the Philips logo on the cap dates to between 1938 and 1968 but that's about it! It doesn't have a screw thread but does have a 0.5" hole on the rear, with two further smaller holes in the rear neck possibly for a pin.
In pretty good condition, with surface scuffs and blemishes, I would be tempted to polish it but I'll leave that to the new owner as some people prefer to keep the patina.
Approximate Size
- (WHD): 10 x 10 x 5cm
- Diameter of rear hole: 1.3cm (0.5")
It's not that heavy but, given its size, I would probably use it as a paperweight!
