1938 Sea Cadet Corps Pocket Manual From Scapa Flow
This small, sixth edition, 1938 Sea Cadet Corps Pocket Manual is a lovely little slice of military history. It belonged to an acquaintance of ours who was a Sergeant in the Sea Cadet Corps, Royal Dockyard Barracks, Lyness, Isle of Hoy, Orkney, during the early part of WW2 before serving in the Armed Forces.
Better known as Scapa Flow, it was the UK's primary Naval base during WW1 and WW2. The Naval base was closed in 1956. It is the location of the WW1 German scuttled fleet.
It may be small in size but it is packed full of useful information on:
- Signalling e.g. Morse, Semaphore, Flags and Pendants
- Seamanship e.g. Knotting, Splicing, Compass
- First Aid
- The Helm
Ralph has written in the book in pencil: mainly electric circuit diagrams!
A lovely little book for lovers of Maritime History.
