1920s Burndept Reitz Pattern Broadcast Microphone
This 1920s Burndept Reitz Pattern Broadcast Microphone is a real piece of history. There aren't many survivors!
It comes with its original wood travel case with leather handle and brass fittings, which is in pretty good condition with some surface scuffs, scratches and blemishes.
The microphone itself is very heavy, and has a paxolin casing and metal surround for the gauze top. The casing is in pretty good condition with some blemishes and surface debris. The mouthpiece gauze has discoloured with age.
It is sold untested.
It was manufactured by Burndept of Aldine House, Bedford St, Strand, London. Burndept also had facilities at Blackheath, South Shields and Dundee.
The patent number, GB938628A, was issued on 28/3/1928
Extract From the Patent:
A microphone of the type in which the current flow through the granular material between the electrodes is transverse to the incident sound waves is provided with channel shaped electrodes partially surrounded by coatings of rubber or like non- resilient material, also of channel formation, so that the exposed surface is shielded from the sound waves.
