Antique Minton China Candlestick
This is an absolutely beautiful Antique Minton China Candlestick dating to about 1903. Gracefully gilded and delicately decorated with small pink roses around the sides accented with green leaves around the base and stem. A gorgeous collector’s piece, which would make the perfect accessory for the dressing/vanity table.
In very good displayed condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. The candlestick is discoloured inside the holder and there is slight loss of gilding.
Approximate Dimensions
- Base Diameter: 9.9 (4″) cm
- Top external diameter: 5.6cm
- Internal diameter: approx. 2.5cm
- Height: 17.7cm (7″)
This wonderful piece was made by the UK Staffordshire pottery, Mintons, whom are famous for the fabulous quality of their pieces and were a world leader in ceramic design. Most items are highly collectible and command very high prices.
I have no idea if it has a pattern name as I have been unable to trace it.
Back Marks
It is back marked with the Mintons globe backstamp dating to 1891 to 1902. There are also painted back stamps: 98115 3 and % (dates to ~1903).
The design was registered in 1888 and made for sale by Hamilton and Clarke Co. Pittsburgh, USA. I haven’t been able to find any information on Hamilton & Clarke but I assume it was a department store or jewellers.
A rare survivor in such good condition.
