WW2 RAF Astro Compass Mk II 06A/11740 Air Ministry In Its Original Transit Case

A very nice WW2 RAF Astro Compass Mk II 06A/11740 Air Ministry In Its Original Transit Case. Instructions are not included but can be found on the Internet.

In fair cosmetic condition, the astro compass has a few surface blemishes and loss of surface coating commensurate with age and use. I haven't been tempted to clean/polish it as some people prefer to see the patina.

Primarily used by WW2 Pilots and Navigators for aircraft celestial navigation, the astro compass determined the precise aircraft position by measuring the angles between celestial bodies, (e.g. the sun, moon and stars), and the horizon, and calculating true North.

This type of Astro Compas was used on many multi-crewed Allied aircraft such as the Avro Lancaster, Bristol Beaufort and the B24 Liberator.

The grey wood transit box is intact but has loose internal fitments, surface blemishes and wood splits. The box has had a few knocks and bangs over the years.

Approximate Size:-

    • Width:  10 cm
    • Height: 21 cm
