WW2 Junker DRP German Naval Kriegsmarine Morse Key
This fantastic morse key is an early WW2 Junker DRP German Naval Kriegsmarine Morse Key. It has a heavy steel base plate and is made from bakelite and steel.
The original black rubberised cable and connector are missing. The key is in fairly good condition with some rust and surface blemishes. There are scratch marks on the gap adjustment screw but the numerals 0-9 are just about readable.
Since this is a grey coloured key, it would have been used in the Kriegsmarine (Germany Navy) or in U-boats / Unterseeboot (submarines).
Approximate measurements:
Base Width: 7.9cm
Base Length:- 19.5cm
Height: 6.7cm
There are some markings underneath the bakelite lever but I didn't want to dismantle it to read what it says. Usually, it has a logo for the State Material Examination office, a manufacturer's code and a bakelite material code. There are the remains of a pink stamp on the rear of the base but this is too faded to read. It is usually Mar. N. which is an abbreviation for Marine Nachrichtengeraete (Navy communication devices), and a date/number.
Marked:-
- Junker,
- D.R.P ( Deutches Reichspatent or German Reich Patent)
- Entstört- Suppressed
- Feder Spannung- Spring Tension
The key was invented by Joseph Junker, a German Naval Radio Officer in World War I, and patented in 1920. Several modifications were made to the key over the years, (it was made until 1993), but the original design has stood the test of time. A Junker's key is noted for its smooth operation and the fact that you can adjust the lever tension.
This key has not been tested.
