A WW2 Air Ministry R1147B VHF Radio Receiver 10D/13129 For A Seafire / Spitfire, sold in its original wood transit case and with a circuit diagram.
It is unusual as this type of receiver was more likely to be found in Naval aircraft where as this one has a RAF stores number.
Where 10D = RAF Stores number for Radio (Wireless and Radar) Equipment, Modulators, Panels, Receivers, Transmitters etc.
Approximate Size Transit Case(WHD): 33 x 30.2 (~1ft) x 23.2 cm
In good cosmetic condition, with storage scuffs and blemishes, this receiver is being sold as a collectible for display only. It is a real piece of WW2 Royal Navy / RAF Radio Communications history!
The wood transit case, RAF reference number 10D/124, has reinforced metal corners, and is in fairly good intact condition with dents, scuffs and scrapes commensurate with age.
Made from black coated non-ferrous metal with bakelite and metal knobs and connectors, this amazing piece of radio equipment has a brass label screwed to the front engraved as follows:-
- Receiver
- Type R1147B
- REF No: 10D/13129
- AM with a crown logo
- Serial no. 5501
The R1147 replaced the earlier Royal Navy R1110 VHF Radio Homing Beacon, which guided the Pilot / Navigator to base. The R1147B was a further upgrade from three spot frequencies to continuous tuning between 108-230MHz. It was used in aircraft such as the Spitfire and Seafire.
One of the appended images is a poor quality photograph which shows the position of the R1147B in a Seafire's Cockpit (no. 55 in the key)
