WW2 Air Ministry Ammeter 5A/1268 In A Cardboard Box. Approx. 5 Inch Diameter
This lovely large black coated cast iron meter is a WW2 Air Ministry Ammeter 5A/1268 In A Cardboard Box. Approx. 5 Inch Diameter, it was used as a meter in a RAF Ground Lighting station on a WW2 airfield.
This incredibly heavy meter, (nearly 2 Kg unpacked), is in pretty good condition with some surface storage marks/dust and rust: particularly around the screws on the front. I haven't tried to clean it or remove the rust. The cardboard box does have surface blemishes and discolouration. Sold as a collectible for display only as it hasn't been tested.
There is a paper 'Returned Equipment' label in the box, dated 30th September 1955, which certified the ammeter as repairable with ' Requires Cleaning Internally (Glass etc.)' written on the rear.
The box also contains two bolts/screws wrapped in paper taken from the UK electrical newspaper; 'Electrical Review' dated 25th December 1942!
Approximate Meter Size:
- Base Diameter: 14cm
- Top Diameter: 12.2cm (just under 5")
- Height:- 8.4cm
The meter has the following markings (some of which are barely visible):
- A.M (Air Ministry)
- Ref 5A/1268 (5A is the RAF stores reference for Electrical Ground Lighting)
- Serial number: 84945
- Moving iron
- 100130 stamped on the base
- F.G (which is thought to mean First Grade)
- Range 0-14 Amperes
There is no maker's mark but it was probably made by Crompton Parkinson.
An unusual electronics collectible for those whom love vintage tests, meters and measures
