WW1 Cased Marching Compass Cruchon & Emons London Verners Pattern VII
This fine looking piece of militaria is an authentic Vintage, 1915, WW1 Cased Marching Compass Cruchon & Emons London Verners Pattern VII, made for both the British Military and U.S Engineer Corps.
The Verners Pattern VII compass was patented 37607 by the highly regarded Swiss company, Cruchon & Emons, in 1915, which also had a manufacturing base in London, UK.
Approximate Size:-
- Diameter: 6cm
- Height: 3.5cm
The compass is engraved with the following:
Cruchon & Emons London
Verners Pattern VII
Condition:
- Made from brass and blackened metal, it is in very good cosmetic and working condition for an antique compass
- There are scuffs and blemishes on the surface, particularly the base, and it would probably benefit from a gentle clean
- The black or red vulcanite insulation ring is missing from the base of the compass
- The date and number have been obscured by scratches on the rear, which often happened once decommissioned, but you can just about make out the date as 1915
- The compass is intact, and still contains the original floating dial made of mother-of-pearl, which glows slightly in the dark. The dial spins freely on a sharp pin and can be locked for transit via a manual button on the side of the case.
- A Prism magnifies the dial for precise readings whilst looking at a target
- The leather travel case was made by the well regarded uniform manufacturer, Hobson & Sons, London. It's in good condition with some discolouration commensurate with age and use.
Beautifully engineered, the Cruchon & Emons compass is a piece of military history: a real collectable!
A lovely little collectible for the militaria enthusiast!
