Wedgwood Terracotta on Primrose Jasper Bamboo Pottery Teapot
This is a fantastic Wedgwood Terracotta on Primrose Jasper Bamboo Pottery Teapot. Made in Staffordshire, England. They had a very short production run in the 1970s and, hence, are becoming increasingly difficult to find. A wonderful collector’s item or statement piece on your afternoon tea tray!
It is in good condition, with no restoration work, cracks, chips or restoration. I have found some difficulty colour matching in the images. The yellow is possibly slightly darker than shown in the images (creamy yellow), and the terracotta leaves are slightly lighter. The design is based on an 18th Century Wedgwood pattern when the Japanese influence was very much in vogue.
The teapot has an impressed back mark, which is very difficult to see on the base in line with the spout.

Jasperware is the most famous of Josiah Wedgwood’s inventions. It first appeared in 1774 after he had conducted thousands of experiments.
An unglazed vitreous fine stoneware made in blue, green, lilac, yellow, black or white; one piece could combine three or more of these colours. According to Wedgwood’s own website, the classical and contemporary reliefs are still made today from moulds reproduced from the originals.
