Vintage Smiths Empire Travel Alarm Clock In A Sliding Brass And Tortoise Shell Effect Case
This is a lovely, working, Vintage Smiths Empire Travel Alarm Clock In A Sliding Brass And Tortoise Shell Effect Case.
I think the case is possibly either an enamel or painted stylised tortoise shell effect. The clock dates to the 1950s.
Approximate Size:
- Closed Case Width: 11.7 cm
- Open Case Width, Height, Depth (WHD): 18.5 x 7.5 x 3.5
- Clock Face Width (including Brass surround): 7cm
In very good working condition, the alarm clock face is cream-white, with the hands and numerals in a contrasting gold. Really easy to read from a distance, the number positions are luminous. The rear of the clock has light surface blemishes.
The casing is in good vintage condition with surface blemishes/scuffs commensurate with age and use.
We haven’t opened up the clock to check for any distinguishing maker’s marks but it was made in Great Britain. It would probably require a CLA (clean, lube and adjust) service to guarantee accurate time keeping.
All in all, a beautiful, and useable, collectible alarm clock. You don't see many with this design!
