Vintage Small Scale Electric Motor / Dynamo Mounted On A Wood Base
This is a beautifully engineered Vintage Small Scale Electric Motor / Dynamo Mounted On A Wood Base. We can't find a maker's mark, and it is possibly homemade, although the design is not dissimilar to those manufactured in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
In good condition, although it would benefit from a clean... It hasn't been tested and is being sold as a collectable for display only. It's pretty heavy!
- Approximate Max. Size (WHD): 19 x 14 x 17 cm
- Unpacked Weight: 4.6Kg
It comprises :-
- Cast Frame: A green-painted cast metal housing enclosing the field magnet coil.
- Commutator & Brushes: Brass brush arms, carbon or metal contact brushes, and a multi-segment copper / brass commutator on the rotor axis.
- Base: Mounted on a simple wooden plinth with connected wire leads (red, green and white). It has probably been rewired.
- Lifting Eye: A small green ring or loop mounted on top of the housing for handling
It is accompanied by a self drawn circuit diagram and four photocopied pages taken from The Dynamo, chapter XVI, page 478, Series, Shunt and Compound Winding. I believe these are from the well-regarded book, The Dynamo: Its Theory, Design and Manufacture by Charles Caesar Hawkins (and co-author Frank Wallis) first published in 1893 by Whittaker & Co.
A wonderful addition to a vintage engineering collection or use as a novelty desk ornament!
