Vintage Rotating Vane Anemometer Turbine
This wonderful looking antique scientific instrument is a 4.5-inch Vintage Rotating Vane Anemometer Turbine. I can't find a maker's mark.
It has 8 vanes and is a sensing head only, where the speed of revolution is measured by an optical system based on a torch bulb and voltage dependent resistor. This measurement is then converted to wind speed using a suitable external meter, (not included), attached via the three pin plug and screw fitment.
Made of hammered finish painted brass with Aluminium vanes, this is both a useful industrial measuring tool and an aesthetic beauty.
Approximate Size:
- Diameter of Anemometer: 11.5cm / 4.5"
- Max. Depth: 8.5cm
The brass is visible in a few places where the coating has been removed. There are surface scuffs and scratches commensurate with age and use.
Also known as a Wind / Air Speed Flow Meter, it would have been used on, for example, an airfield. Other versions were also extensively used in mines.
