Vintage Miner's Safety Torch By Shimwell Alexander SA6060 Under GEC Licence
This Vintage Miner's Safety Torch By Shimwell Alexander SA6060 Under GEC Licence is in lovely working condition. It is made from non-magnetic aluminium with a pale green coating. Although I have called it a miner's torch, it may have been made for use on a ship.
Manufactured by Shimwell Alexander, of 13 Bell Street, London, whom were well known manufacturers of military, industrial and marine electrical accessories; particularly lighting.
The torch looks to have never been used and is in excellent condition. Any defects are minimal and commensurate with length of time spent in storage (dates to, approximately, the 1950s-60s).
The torch switches on near the top via the large chrome coloured switch. Occasionally, the light turns itself off and needs either a slight shake for the beam to reappear or, sometimes, realignment of the bulb holder: (particularly when replacing the batteries).
Although in good condition, the torch may not meet current Health and Safety standards but would make a fantastic addition to a collector of mine/colliery/ marine memorabilia or torches.
Engraved on the side with the following:-
