Vintage LMT Lowther-Murray Transistor Control Unit No.2
This is a preowned, 1950s, Vintage LMT Lowther-Murray Transistor Control Unit No.2 also known as a Lowther Matching Unit no.2- a transistor driven pre-amp. In very good used condition with only a few surface marks. The on/off switch turns with a resounding click.
I've no idea if it is working... It is being sold as a collectible for display only. I can't find another for sale, only mentions of the unit in various late 1950s/ early 1960s HiFi magazines and journal: see attached excerpt with the no.2 control unit advert boxed in red.
Comprising a dark olive green painted metal body with a white plastic on/off turning knob, the unit no.2 has two sockets for input and output and two metal labels with the following information:

- Type L-M-T No. 2
- Serial No. 3
Black Metal Label 2:-
- Lowther-Murray Transitor Amplifier
- Patent Applied for No. 32314/56 (in 1956 by Paul G.A.H Voigt)
- Made in England
- The Lowther MFG. CO..., Bromley, Kent
- The transistor control unit no.2 is an early transistor driven Mono pre-amp designed to operate with any power amplifier including the Lowther LL10 and LL16
- Function: an impedance matching pre-amp to improve audio signal
- Inputs: 5mV. 5-50 Ohms
- Gain: 45-1
Best known for their loudspeakers, the Lowther Manufacturing Co., Lowther House, St Mark's Road, Bromley, Kent, UK., was founded in 1930 and are still manufacturing today.
