Vintage British Military Amplivox Throat Set Microphone NATO No. 5965-99-107-5503

This wonderful looking device is a Vintage British Military Amplivox Throat Set Microphone NATO No. 5965-99-107-5503 dating to the 1960s.

Made in England, probably by Amplivox, it is based on the WW2 USAAF pattern T-30 Throat Microphone. Although it looks like an Amplivox, there doesn't seem to be a maker's mark.

The microphone lead culminates in a 2-pin socket .

This throat microphone is in very good cosmetic condition, and still has the original black elastic neckband. The mic. is unboxed and without instructions, the latter of which are available to download from the internet.

The lead has two labels marked:-

Throat Set Microphone 5965-99-107-5503 and

Cord Assy. Elec. Branched 5965-99-105-5505

The plug is embossed:-944-8102

where- 99- is the NATO code for the UK

A fantastic collectible artefact for all collectors of Militaria and amateur radio enthusiasts.

The T-30 were the preferred microphones of the WW2 United States Army Air Force but were also used by tank crews. Sound was picked up & transmitted as vibrations through a carbon microphone worn just above the Adam's Apple . Air crew reported that voices could be heard better over background engine noise better than other types of microphones.
