Vintage Brass Telegraph Sounder Mounted On Wood
This is an extremely rare Vintage Brass Telegraph Sounder Mounted On Wood. I don't know exactly how old it is, (early 20th Century), or who made it, as there are not discernible maker's marks, and I can't find another like it!
In fair condition, with scuffs, blemishes and pitting on the brass, it requires some restoration. This sounder has not been tested and is being sold as a collectible for display only. I haven't been tempted to polish it as some people prefer to see the original patina.
Approximate Sounder Measurements:
- Base Width: 15.5 cm
- Height: 8.5 cm
- Base Depth: 10 cm
Despite its defects, the telegraph sounder is a work of great design and engineering. It features a dual electromagnetic coil mechanism in a brass and metal frame with brass connectors.
Even if you aren’t a collector of telegraph or early communications equipment, you can’t failed to be impressed by the design. It would look wonderful as a paperweight or a desk ornament. An interesting Gizmo or Gadget to talk about in the office or a vintage telegraphy museum!
