Vintage Blue Hornsea Pottery Sam Thatcher Character Toby Milk Jug

This is a very unusual 1951 /1952 Vintage Blue Hornsea Pottery Sam Thatcher Character Toby Milk Jug. Designed by Colin Rawson, one of the two brothers who founded Hornsea pottery in their kitchen in 1949 before becoming a limited company in 1954.

In very good condition with no cracks, chips or restoration. There is a small amount of crazing. Sam Thatcher's face is beautifully sculpted, and I love the jaunty mariner's cap and neckerchief!

• Width jug lip to handle end: 13cm 

The character jug is not perfect, there are a few glazing defects but these defects have been there since the jug was first manufactured.

Very few of these pieces were made in the early days of Hornsea Pottery so it's a great find for your Hornsea collection or to use as a milk jug!
