Vintage 1920s Wedgwood Manchoo Ceramic 12 Inch Charger
This Vintage 1920s Wedgwood Manchoo Ceramic 12 Inch Charger is a bit of a mystery. I can't find other examples of the Queensware Manchoo pattern anywhere, other than part of a Dinner service in Italy!
A pretty floral pattern with burnt orange and yellow flowers, with a blue greek key style pattern around the edge and 3.5cm in from the edge. It appears quite fresh and modern in design, despite being 100 years old and an antique!
Approximate Dimensions
- Diameter: 30cm / 12"
- Height: 3cm
- Base diameter: 20cm / 8"
The plate is in pretty good condition, with no restoration work, chips or cracks. It isn’t defect free, e.g. pattern smudges, air bubbles; but these defects have been present since the plate was first manufactured. There is also some age related crazing and a glazing mark on the edge of the plate.
Although it is very similar to 'Manchu,' made by Wedgwood & co, this is a different company with the same name as the iconic Josiah Wedgwood of Etruria. This charger was made by the latter.
