STC 4017C BBC Microphone Serial No. 3422 In Its Original Wooden Box
This STC 4017C BBC Microphone Serial No. 3422 In Its Original Wooden Box is a fairly good example of an iconic piece of BBC Broadcasting history.
Measures 1.8 Ohms, via a multimeter, across the connectors.
This particular moving coil brass microphone, with screw terminals, is in fair cosmetic condition.
- The silk screen has a few holes and is slightly frayed but could be replaced.
- The microphone looks like it has been dropped, resulting in a dent in the top of the brass case and broken bakelite near the rear connectors.
- The grey/blue wood case is in good condition with surface scuffs and blemishes commensurate with age and use.
Nevertheless, this microphone is still pretty rare and the price has been adjusted to account for the defects.
The STC 4017 moving coil microphone was first introduced by the Standard Telephone Company and BBC in 1938. Mainly used for outside broadcasting until the mid-1950s, the STC 4017 microphone was used by the BBC and pictured with many famous people during significant events and speeches in its history: see the appended WW2 image of the then Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, addressing the nation.
