Paul Cardew SW1 London Map 1992 Novelty Pottery Teapot

This is a very nice 1992 teapot with a map of SW1, London, UK, by the famous teapot designer, Paul Cardew. He has produced all sorts of novelty and kitsch teapots, many of which are highly collectible.

It is in good condition, with no restoration work or cracks. It does have manufacturing defects including bubbles, glazing marks and a pin hole on the underside of the handle. There is also a glazing mark or chip underneath the rim of the pot which is not visible unless viewed at an angle without the lid.

The teapot has a printed back mark:-

“Design By Paul Cardew
Based On The 1992 Ordnance Survey 3.1 Inches: 1 Mile Geographers’ London Atlas map
With The Permission Of The Controller Of Her Majesty’s Stationary Office. Crown Copyright 88603M”

This area covers Knightsbridge, Belgrave and Buckingham Palace; a highly desirable postcode comprising high-end residences and shops.

Approximate Size:-

Base Diameter: 10.6cm
Height (including lid): 15cm
Length (Handle to spout): 24.5cm

A nice piece for collectors of tourist ware, residents of SW1, and lovers of Paul Cardew teapots!
