1950s Gala Sonic Aircraft Chrome Desk Model
This is a very collectible, but incomplete, chrome model of a Gala Sonic Jet Fighter Airplane Cigarette Lighter dating to the 1950s. Made in England by Gala Sonic.
Approximate size:
Wing Span: 17cm
Height (including base):- approx. 15cm
Length of aircraft: 22cm
In fair condition, with surface scratches, scuffs, and pitting in the metal, this cigarette lighter is missing its lighter mechanism, lid, and ball at the front of the nose. However, it is useful for spares and repairs or someone with metal crafting skills could fashion an upper body to complete the silhouette.
The plane is mounted on a ball-jointed support arm and can be placed at any angle of climb or descent. The arm rises from a stepped octagonal plinth which in turn sits on a black Bakelite octagonal base.
The base has green baise on the underside and should be marked with the following product information:
REGD. DESIGNS
869697. 869675
880107/56
PRO. PATENT
7599/56
However, this information has been rubbed out
The base is inscribed.
Mum & Dad
1930-1970
Jill & John
1971
I think they inscribed an item which was already vintage when they acquired it.
Despite the missing parts, this is still a wonderful display item for the office desk, study and hobby room!
