Antique Portable Brass Drum Microscope In a Wood Case
This lovely looking scientific collectable is an Early 20th Century Antique Portable Brass Drum Microscope In a Wood Case.
Approximate Box Size (WHD):- 17.4 x 6 x 6.9cm
In good condition, with a few surface blemishes, I haven't been tempted to polish it as some people prefer to see the original patina. I'm not sure of the magnification, and the optics are a little hazy, it would probably benefit from a clean.
There doesn't seem to be a maker's mark, which is not unusual for this type and style of microscope, but many were made both in the UK and France by several well-known optical instrument manufacturers. An Edwardian era simple pocket field microscope, this would be a suitable instrument for the scientific instrument collector.
There is the probable remnants of a label on top of the stained pine box, (made to look like the Victorian microscope mahogany boxes), which is beautifully made with slender hooks to close the lid and small steel hinges with tiny screws.
