Antique Franz Welz Honeycomb Splatter / Spatter Glass Jug / Creamer
This small Antique Franz Welz Honeycomb Splatter / Spatter Glass Jug / Creamer is a riot of bubbles of colour. Being handmade, it has a very 'folk art' feel.
In fair antique condition with no restoration. The bottom of the handle, where it joins the body, is quite rough to the touch and looks to have slightly chipped. This glassware also has manufacturing defects, surface scuffs and scratches commensurate with age and use.

Dating to the 1890s/early 1900s, and made in Bohemia (now in the Czech Republic) at the Franz Welz factory, the ribbed glass jug is unmarked but easily identified as an early Welz Honeycomb pattern. Made using a technique known as "Spatter" or "Splatter" glass
Founded in Bohemia in 1728, the Franz Welz glassworks was also known as Antonienhütte.
It would make an unusual milk jug/creamer or use as a posy vase with sprigs of herbs in the kitchen.
A lovely antique, (over 100 years old), which deserves a place in any retro home!
