1920s SG Brown Earphone Hearing Audio Aid

If you like quirky gadgets then you will love this 1920s SG Brown Earphone Hearing Audio Aid. It measures approximately 33cm/13" in length, and is connected to a Bakelite, 5 amp, MK 2-pin plug. The device would have been switched on and off by turning the knob at the bottom of the wand.

We are not sure how it was actually used but they were sold as audio aids for use in, for example, churches and cinemas or for improving Radio reception. In good condition, with a few surface scuffs and scratches commensurate with age and use. There is also a slight rattle coming from the headphone. Made from a mixture of Bakelite and metal, it has not been tested.

I've included an advert for the device made by the venerated headphone manufacturer SG Brown of Watford, England.
Stamped on the rear of the Black Bakelite earpiece with:

SG Brown Ltd
Type F
Made in Watford, England

A nice piece of history for the medical devices themed collection!
