1970s Universal Avometer Model 8 MkV With VC1 Converter And Tan Leather Transit Case
This is a very nice vintage 1970s Universal Avometer Model 8 MkV With VC1 Converter And Tan Leather Transit Case.
The meter is in pretty good used working condition with some slight scuffs on the surface of the meter and the handle. The case is slightly grubby with blemishes but is otherwise intact and in good condition albeit a little musty... A wonderful piece of electronic history, it also comes with leads. Although it does appear to be in working condition, it is being is sold as a collectible as I can't attest to its accuracy.
Approximate Dimensions (WHD): 16.7 x 19 x 11.5 cm
This particular meter is quite special as it bucks the trend of having a D cell and a 15V BLR121 battery to power the resistance ranges by having the scarce VC1 converter module fitted, which takes its power from the sole D cell to fulfil all measuring range needs. Every AVO needs a VC1 but alas they are as scarce as the fabled unicorn due to high initial purchase price and consequent poor take up.
NB: Battery is not included due to the problems with shipping.
A multimeter, the model 8 Mk V measures in ohms, amps and volts. The working instructions are printed on a metal label on the rear of the instrument but can also be found on the internet.

The AVO 8 MARK V is a later version of the famed AVO 8 METER, introduced in the 1950s, with the final version, the AVO 8 MK7, being discontinued as production costs and consequent retail sale price made them unviable to continue production: the last Mk7 SOLD FOR A WHISKER UNDER £1000!
