1970s Price Kensington PK Harold Wilson Gurgling Jug

This is a lovely kitsch 1970s Price Kensington PK Harold Wilson Gurgling Jug, manufactured in Staffordshire, England.

It is a caricature of Harold Wilson, the UK Labour Party Prime Minister: 1964- 1970 and 1972-74 depicting his characteristic pipe which extends into the jug handle. He is also holding a box of matches; which would have been Swan Vestas!

This particular jug is un-gilded, and only the jacket is coloured black: the remainder is unpainted, which is very unusual.

Maximum Approximate Dimensions:

Base Width: 11cm
Height : 18.5cm
Depth (Handle to spout): 15cm

A wonderful collector’s item or statement piece on your afternoon tea tray or drinks trolley ! It is in fairly good condition, with no restoration work, cracks or chips. There is some age related crazing.

The maker’s green printed mark on the base was used by Price Brothers from the 1960s. It is impressed on the base with 3990, Made in England, and P&K.

Gurgling jugs are said to be intended for use as water jugs, having inherited their name due to the sound they made when liquid was poured out.  They were used extensively as advertising items by breweries, but their use as political caricatures is much more unusual.
