1961 Kalamazoo UK S Loose Leaf Paper Binder With Black Bakelite Hard Back Cover

This is an original vintage 1961 Kalamazoo UK S Loose Leaf Paper Binder With Black Bakelite Hard Back Cover. In pretty good cosmetic condition with scuffs, discolouration and a few bumps commensurate with age and use.

Made by Kalamazoo, Birmingham, UK (formerly Moreland and Impey Limited), this bakelite binder is pretty heavy duty and would have sat nicely as a ledger in a busy office or manufacturing workshop!

Approximate Binder Size including the paper (WHD): 25 x 16.4  x 4 cm

Beautifully engineered, it is complete with loose leaf sheets, nicely held together within the unusual thong post/ prong-style 'S' binder, ready for use in an Electrical department. Each sheet allows for an item description on the front and inspection record on the rear.

There is a blue Kalamazoo label on the inside back of the binder with the date (8/61), order number and size, 6 9: I think the quoted size is for the paper at approximately 9" width x 6" height, although the paper provided is actually slightly larger than this.

The patent number GB:567311 dates to 1943, and refers to Loose-leaf binders. KALAMAZOO, Ltd., (formerly MORLAND & IMPEY, Ltd.), CHERRY, H. A., and ELEY, L. Aug. 5, 1943, No. 12660. [Class 146 (i)]

A wonderful piece of paper binding history and difficult to find outside a museum.
