1960s Wedgwood Chaucer's Canterbury Pilgrims Commemorative Mug

This is a genuine 1960s Wedgwood Chaucer’s Canterbury Pilgrims Commemorative Mug. It is a matt creamy white in colour, with a printed black engraved pattern of the Canterbury Pilgrims based on the characters from Chaucer’s book. Introduced in 1963-64, it was discontinued in 1969 and designed by Victor Skellern.

The tankard measures 11.8cm tall and has a base diameter of ~ 9cm.

It is in pretty good condition with no chips, cracks, scratches, or repairs.

Wonderful illustrations with the procession of diverse people whom recount stories to pass the time on a pilgrimage to Canterbury forming the basis of Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales” e.g. Cook, Wife of Bath, Plowman, Franklin (a freeman – not a serf), Sompnour (In ecclesiastical law, an officer of the ecclesiastical courts whose duty was to serve citations or process); Pardoner (a medieval preacher delegated to raise money for religious works by soliciting offerings and granting indulgences), Friar, Lady Abbess.
