1960s Sestrel Car Compass Made For Newbold And Bulford
This is a small, vintage, 1960s Sestrel Car Compass Made For Newbold And Bulford: (a manufacturer of scientific instruments based at Enbeeco House, Roger Street, Gray’s Inn Road, London). These types of compass were much loved by Rally Drivers and Rolls Royce owners in the 1960s.
The magnetic compass is in fairly good cosmetic condition, with a few surface blemishes and loss of paint commensurate with age and use.
The compass bowl is suspended in a liquid filled perspex with a black painted magnetic casing and dashboard mounting bracket. It does appear to be working but I can't attest to its accuracy.
Approximate Compass Size:-
- Max. diameter: 5cm
- Height: 5cm
- Depth: 6.4cm
The compass has a small metal label marked as follows:-
Sestrel
Made for
Newbold and Bulford Ltd
London WC1
Sestrel was the original trademark of Henry Browne and Son Ltd, of Barking, London, manufacturers of aviation and nautical compasses, clocks and dials.
