1954 Programme For A Lecture-Demonstration On Sound Reproduction By GA Briggs
A 1954 Programme For A Lecture-Demonstration On Sound Reproduction By GA Briggs held at the Royal Festival Hall on Monday 1st November 1954. A lovely snapshot of Radio and HiFi history.
Comprises 4 pages printed on each side. Approx. 25.4 x 17.8cm in size.
The programme is in pretty good condition but has some foxing and discolouration. The original attendee has annotated the programme in pencil, with some of the recital noted as being 'perfect' in sound reproduction. Quite an accolade!
How else do you demonstrate the quality of sound reproduction for your company than to hold a recital of recorded sounds, from breaking glass to classical music, using your equipment at The Royal Festival Hall in London!
That's exactly what Gilbert Briggs did for the Wharfedale Wireless Works with the help of Quad and engineers from EMI, BBC and Decca: see photo of St George's Hall, Bradford, where an earlier recital was held.
The Wharfedale company were renowned for their Radio and HiFi equipment, in particular Wharfedale Loudspeakers. Gilbert Briggs, author of 'Sound Reproduction,' is credited with building his first loudspeaker in the cellar of his home before opening the Wharfedale factory.
