1950s Grays Pottery Copper Lustre Milk Jug
This is an unusual, small, 1950s Grays Pottery Copper Lustre Milk Jug. Decorated by Gray’s Pottery, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, UK.
It is in pretty good used condition with no cracks, chips or restoration. However, it is not flawless. There are manufacturing defects that have been present since the jug was first made, and a few flecks of lustre are missing particularly around the rim.
Although I have called it copper lustre, it may actually be 'purple' lustre: I could be convinced either way! It is unusual in that the pattern is lustred as opposed to the whole jug being lustred exposing a pattern. The white jug was made by Lancaster & Sandland, Hanley, and decorated by Gray's; these jugs were often destined for the North American market.
