1950s Fonadek RAF Radio Extension Loudspeaker

This is a 1950s Fonadek RAF Radio Extension Loudspeaker. It hasn't been tested and is sold as a collectible for display only.

The hammered brown metal cabinet is in fair cosmetic condition with some rust, scuffs and blemishes commensurate with age and use. The attached lead culminates in a jack plug.

Fonadek was the tradename of Branson Limited, Birmingham, UK, and were best known as makers of hands free telephone receivers (see appended advert).

A label on the face reads:
Fonadek
Reg.d Trademark
"Frees the hands"

Approximate Size:
  • Width: 18 cm
  • Height: 16 cm
  • Depth: 7.7 cm (~3")
This small enclosed table top speaker, with a black bakelite switch on the side, was designed for use as a radio extension speaker, especially in the office environment (or in this case at a RAF station) e.g. for use with dictaphones or for the original 'hands free' phone call.
