1946 BB 208 AMT Willard Radiosonde Storage Battery Pack In A Spam Tin

This is a 1946 BB 208 AMT Willard Radiosonde Storage Battery Pack In A Spam Tin. In unused condition with its original outer cardboard box, which has been opened. This battery pack was intended for the US Army Signal Corps.

The pack comprises dry heating and anode accumulators soldered into an evacuated tinplate 'SPAM' can. The batteries were activated when require by removing the lid and following the instruction printed on the side of the can. These batteries were used in radio communications and radiosondes (a small weather balloon coupled with a radio transmitter).
