British Patent 416359/1933
Made from non-ferrous metal, they use an ingenious twisting method of opening and collapsing the shades as patented by Barr & Stroud in 1933.
Barr and Stroud, a World renowned optical manufacturer based in London and Glasgow, were awarded a contract to supply the British Royal Navy in 1930. Their CF41 Naval binoculars were used extensively during WW2, (see attached image), and are such good quality that they are still much admired. However, they are rarely found with their sun/anti-glare shades as the sailors didn't always fit them correctly to the binoculars and many were consigned to the bottom of the sea!
